Public Education & Training
The Fire Marshal’s Office participates in and guides the delivery of educational programs for the community at large and specifically residential staff, event staff, and First Year Experience students. 2014 also marks the restart of the staff fire extinguisher training program to meet OSHA compliance mandates on campus.
Other duties include inspection of underground tank removals; issuance and approval of open burning permits; meetings with contractors and design teams to review concepts and code requirements. The Fire Marshal is responsible for investigating complaints such as outside burning, overcrowding, locked exit doors, blocked aisle ways, etc., and permitting blasting, pyrotechnics, and outside event structures. Less common, but critical to the safety of the campus, is investigation of all fires to determine cause and reduce chance of recurrence.
